Posted March 06, 2018 05:05:06 When you are in the midst of a hypersexual disorder treatment and medication, it can be easier to focus on what you can do.
“When you’re treating someone who has a hyperactive personality disorder, it’s a lot harder to get to the core of the issue and get them off medication,” said Dr. Scott Kowalski, an addiction psychiatrist at New York’s Langone Medical Center.
“The goal is to get them to think about the symptoms of their disorder, but also what their symptoms are.”
And while medications can help, they don’t always ease the anxiety of a person with a disorder that can feel like a perpetual state of anxiety.
“Some medications may actually exacerbate that anxiety, which can actually make it worse,” said Kowalaski.
“It’s an issue of, ‘What am I supposed to do?’
I think the most important thing is not to lose sight of the real issue.”
For those who have a problem that is affecting their health and their relationships, Kowalki says there are medications that can help them cope with their symptoms.
“There’s not one medication that can solve everything, but there are some medications that, in some cases, can actually help,” he said.
“I would definitely recommend that if someone has a treatment problem, that they look at medication, if they’re not comfortable with it, to take a few weeks off, because medication can be the key to their long-term health.”
