Vice President Joe Biden will announce a new policy Thursday that aims to encourage doctors to treat sick patients and reduce the cost of medical care.
In a speech to the American Medical Association, Biden will recommend that physicians perform routine physical exams, use ultrasound scans, and use a drug called electrocoage, or the combination of two drugs that can prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Dr. Ben L. Carson, President of the American College of Physicians, called the proposal a step in the right direction.
He said he believes it will be “a big win for physicians.”
Carson said the new policy will not only save doctors money but will also improve patient care, which is often expensive.
“We are not going to go bankrupt in the short term,” he said.
“I believe that by making sure that physicians are doing routine physical examinations and the use of medications, that we’re not going bankrupt in our long-term financial future,” Carson said.
